Defying Extreme Cold: Tide Power CHP Project Lands in Europe

By tidepower 8 August, 2026

When European winter temperatures plunge to minus 20°C, with limited grid coverage and absent heating networks — where do electricity and heat come from? This is a challenge that every industrial park must solve.

Tide Power delivered two double-layer containerized gas generator sets for a European project, featuring a purpose-built Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system that provides independent, efficient, and reliable energy assurance in extreme cold.

Project Overview

  • Location: A region in Europe
  • Application: Pharmaceutical manufacturing facility
  • Unit model: Custom double-layer containerized gas generator set, cold-resistant configuration & CHP waste heat recovery system
  • Engine: MWM (Mannheim)
  • Alternator: Leroy-Somar
  • Rated power: 1000 kWe

Customized Solution: Adapted for Extreme Conditions

Tide Power selected two MWM (Mannheim) gas engines (16-cylinder V-type) paired with Leroy-Somar LSA-series alternators. This proven combination provides a solid foundation for long-term continuous operation.

Based on project conditions, a custom double-layer containerized structure was designed. The outer weatherproof steel shell withstands wind and snow impact, while the intermediate insulation layer effectively blocks cold transmission — ensuring normal startup and stable operation at minus 20°C. The containerized design also ensures transport convenience and rapid deployment capability, particularly suited for overseas projects with incomplete utility networks and tight construction schedules.

Waste Heat Recovery: Maximizing Energy Efficiency

The core value of CHP (Combined Heat and Power) lies in “squeezing every last drop” of energy from each cubic metre of gas. The jacket water waste heat and exhaust waste heat generated during operation are efficiently recovered and converted into thermal energy for the user’s production and heating needs — reducing dependence on external heat sources while significantly lowering overall energy costs.

In areas with incomplete utility networks, this system means no longer relying on the power grid and heating boilers — a single installation simultaneously addresses both electricity and heating needs, dramatically improving comprehensive energy utilization.

Tide Power: Professional Energy Solutions Provider

Overseas projects often face complex environmental conditions and limited infrastructure — extreme cold, extreme heat, high altitude, salt-spray corrosion. Every operating condition imposes stringent requirements on equipment.

Tide Power possesses the capability for customized design and delivery across all types of extreme conditions — from extreme cold to tropical heat, from high altitude to island environments — tailoring solutions to the actual conditions of each project.

With years of deep expertise in gas power generation, Tide Power serves as a globally authorized MWM OEM partner, having accumulated rich CHP project experience across Europe, the Middle East, and other regions. From solution design and equipment manufacturing to on-site commissioning, we provide full-process technical support — delivering reliable energy solutions customized to different climate conditions and client requirements.
